Adele received her first Oscar for "Best Original Song" at 85th annual Academy Awards yesterday night. The British singer won the golden statuette thanks to her "Skyfall", the theme song of the homonymous James Bond film, released on October 2012. The song is the first Bond theme to receive an Academy Award nomination since 1982's "For your eyes only", performed by Sheena Easton.
"Skyfall" beat out "Before my time" from "Chasing ice", "Everybody needs a best friend" fom "Ted", "Suddenly" from "Les Miserables" and "Pi's lullaby" from "Life of Pi".



Canadian composer Mychael Danna won the prize for original song for "Life of Pi" which won over Alan Alexandre Desplat (Argo), Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina), John Williams (Lincoln)and Thomas Newman (Skyfall)
