Richard Street of The Temptations dies at 70
- Richard Street, member of Motown legend The Temptations, is dead. He was 70 and a pulmonary embolism was the cause of his death.Street was in the band from the early 1970s to 1993; he became a member of The Temptations after a brief tenure with the 1960s Detroit soul band the Monitors (which had a minor hit with "Say You") and in the '50s vocal group the Distants with Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin. He also worked for Motown in the quality control department.
The singer joined the group around the same time as Damon Harris, who coincidentally died a few days ago - on February 18.
Street, who replaced original member Paul Williams, sang on hits including "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and "Masterpiece" and at the time of his death he was reportedly working on a tell-all biography
