After more than 30 years Voivod are still at it. And it seems almost impossible, thinking of their early days as dangerous thrashers then mutated into space rock techno thrash warriors...
This is their 13th work, the first showing no trace of Denis “Piggy” D’Amour's songwriting and guitar playing - and this is really something, given that Piggy, since 1984, has been the main songwriter of Voivod.
The band, despite the difficult task, managed to release a great album, faithful to their spirit and essence, in the vein of “Dimension Hatröss” (1988) and “Nothingface” (1989) – with dissonant chords, spiky songs, deranged feeling, prog touches...
From the techno thrash fury of “Kluskap O’com” to the epic prog hell of “Mechanical Mind”, from the slow and disturbing “Empathy for the enemy” to the rocking “Resistance”, the album unrolls convincing and solid.
