Placebo to distribute back catalogue through Kobalt Label Services
British alternative rock band Placebo has signed a deal with Kobalt Label Services for the global digital distribution of its entire back catalogue.
The deal involves six studio albums as well as additional audiovisual material that spans across their two decades in the limelight.
The signing represents a coup for Kobalt Label Services, since there aren’t that many bands of Placebo’s stature around with control over their back catalogue.
Kobalt aims to leverage its global digital marketing expertise in promoting the band’s catalogue, whilst the band will be able to make full use of Kobalt’s transparent reporting tools - the result of a $55m investment to date.
Technology is not everything though since the band’s manager Alex Weston (Riverman Management) stated that what really impressed them about Kobalt was “… their proactive and knowledgeable team who understood the band’s objectives and how to create innovative and captivating platforms in areas of their catalogue which previously were not available to exploit”.
