Being Human
I've been searching for the symmetry that I once called home,
But there's no lines of symmetry here just lines of coke,
A stench of alcohol and the walls are yellow from the smoke.
A portrait is all that i own but it won't cover the cracks and the holes,
And even that a man dressed in black came and stole.
So i changed the keyhole twice with man made parts,
although my door leads to nothing more than an empty room.
There was a time when there was lessons to be learnt,
The pupils would look outside through the holes in the roof,
To a world I once looked to for the truth.
It's been a while since I stood outside looking in
The air is hard to chew and I am filling up like a hot air balloon,
The river flowing east is bitter cold.
No longer can I see the stars for the glitter and gold,
There must be something in the atmosphere
Drawling lines and gravity near.
I saw my life so clear in the bottom of a tear,
What good is seeing the sky for not a single star?
How beautiful is the human body, really? Without a single scar?
It's the cracks in the walls of symmetry that make us distinct.
Have you ever noticed that its fear that makes you blink,
But it's the tears that keep your eyes open and help define
That I am only human.
I am 21 living within the gloom
I am an old man sitting within the bloom
Although I am blind to a world I cannot see
Ironic as it sounds in this moment of clarity
I can see the stars, I can see the scars for all of those memories.
But there's no lines of symmetry here just lines of coke,
A stench of alcohol and the walls are yellow from the smoke.
A portrait is all that i own but it won't cover the cracks and the holes,
And even that a man dressed in black came and stole.
