No Caroling For Christmas
No Caroling For Christmas
When I left my home just a short time ago,
It was getting so cold; and the first signs of snow
Drove the blue sky out of the show
With the gone days of old, and the friendships they hold,
With outriders so bold and the hopes that they sold,
With the best chance at the rainbow's gold.
Now the smiles and the dreams and the hopes and the songs
And the love felt for her that burned so long all through my heart
Through all of these years
Have to keep me propped up, and keep me free from despair;
And keep the light in my eye
And keep Christmas time free of
These tears. Would you dry all my tears?
On one Christmas Eve, I was going home late;
And a choir in song looked at me, oh, so long,
And they wondered just what had gone wrong.
They didn't know what to say, know the price that was paid
To make me look sad that way,
To hold my feelings at bay,
To bring me there to just watch them walk away.
I'm a poor man this Christmas, my only gift is a smile.
You keep me at a distance; keep me wondering, "When ends this trial?"
And I know that's your style. No caroling for Christmas.
Everyone else stayed home.
Now the day is drawing near, and when it comes I find
I am alone; but it's just for a while.
Seasons come and seasons go; Choir's songs, they stay you know.
Christmas stars, they shine so bright,
Miracles, they make things right.
Close your eyes, and we'll be near. Don't you ask us how or where.
Coming is the season when Christmas will have joy again...
