This Model Is Broken

American Businessman, look what you do
You source your work to factories where workers are abused
So your stock price climbs, on the market of a 'first-world' nation
While the 'third world' fights your pollution and chokes

It hasn't always been this way
There used to be a day
Where businesses employed the people
Of their communities
But profits over people
Will leave it to the lowest bidder
So how low are you willing to go

Fellow consumer, look at that tag
That garments made by workers that don't have half the freedom
That you have
And it's purchase sends a message to the owners of corporations
That thought the ethics are fucked it seems to work

It hasn't always been this way
There used to be a day
Where people's dollars went back into their community
Now it goes to an export zone
On the other side of the world
Far removed from everyhting you work for

American worker, hold up your head
One day you'll find a job to employ all the skill that you have
They sent them all away to save on their bottom line
Where folks know they'll be shot dead if they stand on a picket line

It hasn't always been this way
There used to be a day
Where labor was protected by the power of itself
Now, they found a way to sidestep the protections that
Built this land
But how long will their model work
How long can this country not work
How long can we put it on someone else
Before we accept responsibility ourselves?
