Ode to the River

Water it falls from the sky
But the river it never asks why
As her cracked dusty shorelines grow dry
She wades in the wake
Of the silt and the clay
And reflects the grey back to the sky

The mountain tops covered in snow
Begin to breathe and let go
And the water once loose it can flow
To the river to ready
To feel something heavy
And alive in her bed sheets once more

How different the river and I
For I cannot help but ask why
And the sounds the waves make when they break
They shatter my shoreline
Unearth my dark light
Remind me that I am awake

We're dancing in the moon again
Slipping into the night
Caught up in a yearning
An ineligible churning
It should not be my concern, but the earth it is turning

And we're broke down on the interstate
Refusing to yield to the mistakes we've made
But girl you better find yourself a man to date
To tame this wild and unruly state

Oh, the wild is innate you know
Why would you try to stop me from growing?
Don't drown in cold water my friends
