Quarter to Four

It was Sunday morning bouta 9 am,
The air was still it was a hundred and ten
When two fine policemen had a reason they were looking for me.
And I had no warning till they kicked in the door
But I was quick conforming
I was down on the floor
They said "Son, we found your gun"
Gonna lock you up and throw away the key

And they said it was a quarter to four
A bullet from my 44.
They say I took his life cause he tried to take my wife
They said it was a quarter to four

I said "wait a minute man I got an alibi,
Cause I was home all alone with my baby and I
Don't even have a reason to be shooting down some dude I don't know"
And they said "yes, unless he had your woman in bed
Then you could kill him in a second, that's what everyone said
We read a lovely letter from your lady saying they better lay low

And they said it was a quarter to four
A bullet from my 44.
They say I took his life cause he tried to take my wife
They said it was a quarter to four

Then I was cuffed and stuffed inside
This cop car to die when I overheard the words from my baby she cried
"Mr your mistaken, the one you should be taken is me"
When she said she left him dead
Because He threatened to tell me they'd been sleeping
In his bed so she waited until
He closed eyes, surprise this time permanently

And they said it was a quarter to four
A bullet from my 44.
They say I took his life cause he tried to take my wife
They said it was a quarter to four

A bullet from my 44.
They say I took his life, well it must have been my wife
They said it was a quarter to four
