The Portrait

As she comes into focus
I see a longing in her eyes
A wishful yearning
And her face is so graceful
The perfect ally of disguise
This seems foreign to her
Like she's never done this before
Yet any nerves she just denies
And I try so
She's such a mystery to analyze

Kick

She takes a pretty picture when she's standing still
The flash now exposes all that's missing in her soul
Through hidden tears I see she's wise beyond her years
The anguish she feels a page she tries hard not to show

Your emptiness (refracts through the mirror)
What do you need (to fill the void inside)
I don't know why you're here
This portrait you wish for
The message unclear
But it's certain you don't want to hide

She shows acceptance to the burden she endures
Alternative outcome unrealistic to accept
She lives a different life beyond this focused lens
But tonight we tear asunder the wall of neglect

Your emptiness (refracts through the mirror)
What do you need (to fill the void inside)
I don't know why you're here
This portrait you wish for
The message unclear
But it's certain you don't want to hide

Hypnotised by the mystery that sits her in my light
Wears no disguise, concealing no lies
We have but a moment in time then it's flash and goodbye

I will, immortalise her
Lest my lens never sees your face again
A camera is all that I am
And this is all I can do
