Sheltered

I met her sheltered from the pouring rain, waiting for the storm to pass her by
We shared some lunch in side a small café, whispering sweet nothings keeping dry
We saw each other time and time again, never knowing what may lie ahead
I made her laugh and we became good friends, so good in fact that we were wed
When we were young we sought out pleasure and fun, and nothing was left on the shelf
But as we grew older commitments were bolder, we sheltered our hearts from ourselves
Although I met her in the pouring rain, the well of love that we had shared went dry
I felt so numb just living day by day, until I finally broke right down and cried
Our love was dying on a rainy day, she wanted space, what could I say
She tested love in such a foolish way, I think about her when it rains
When we were young we sought out pleasure and fun, and nothing was left on the shelf
But as we grew older commitments were bolder, we sheltered our hearts from ourselves
We see each other time and time again, knowing that the past is put to rest
I made her laugh and we became good friends, I guess it's all been for the best
I hope she's sheltered from the pouring rain
