The Loneliest Birds

I'm the loneliest bird this world has ever seen
My feathers are ragged, I'm too blue to preen
My lover has flown to a field far away and green

I'm the loneliest snow goose this lake has ever known
The water's frozen over, and my flock has gone home
They're flying in pairs, and I'm stuck up north alone

I'm the loneliest heron in the marsh this year
The cattails are brittle, there's no fish to spear
I'm wasting away, on my own out here

I'm the loneliest robin on the block this spring
My nest tipped over, and I've got no young to feed
Throw a rock at me cause I just can't bear to sing

I'm the loneliest bird this world has ever seen
My feathers are ragged, I'm too blue to preen
My lover has flown to a field far away and green
