Grey Winter Blues

I found a book today
On my bookshelf, tucked away
It was poetry you placed in my hands
It's been so many years
I've cried so many new tears
I almost forgot you were my man

I turn to the first blank page
Where you wrote my name
My fingers trace your sweet and crooked print
You wrote of omens and fate
You said there will come a day
They will bring us together again

But you're too long gone
You've got a wife, some horses, and a farm
You're settled down
I'm in this same old town
Where the snow falls down like rain

Someday this winter will end
And the birds come again
And I might not think much of you
But a fleeting false hope
In a sweet old love note
Has left me these grey winter blues

You are too long gone
You've got a wife, some horses, and a farm
You're settled down
I'm in this grey old town
Where the snow falls down like rain

You're too long gone
You've got a wife, some horses, and a farm
You're settled down
I'm in this same old town
Where the snow falls down like rain
