I've Won

It may seem like it's just a little thing to you
And in a way of no consequence to site
But to me, it's another victory
In my daily battle to do what's right
Part of me justifies the doing of the wrong
As I listen to the philosophies of man
While something else inside my mind and heart
Whispers
You can do better than that

And so
I try to keep myself in check
As all around me
The voices call For me to come
But right here, and right now, I'm holding my own
And I'd like to think
In my own way
For now
I've won

Over the years, I have come to realize
It's usually that little transgression or crime
That we stupidly seem to fall prey to, again and again
And become insensitive to their effects over time
It can be hard to make a comeback after
Falling short
Thinking I'm weak
But as my principles are beset
Something else inside my heart and soul
Cries out, saying
Don't give up on yourself just yet

And so, I'm here, keeping myself in check
As all around me, voices calling for me to do something dumb
But for right here, and for right now
I'm holding my own
And I kind of feel
That in a way
At least for now
I've won

At least for now
I've won

At least for now
I've won
