The Blacksmith

A little boy was playing downtown
When he heard the piercing sound
Ringing through the atmosphere
It came from the corner of 5th and Main
Through the broken window pain
Stood an old man full of years

And as the boy peered inside
The old man caught his eyes, and he said

You gotta put it in the fire, put it in the forge
'Cause it ain't gonna get formed when its just lukewarm
Then hold it to the anvil once its glowing like a torch
And beat it with a hammer so it can be transformed
From what it was before, put it in, put it in the fire
Put it in the forge, you gotta put it in the forge

The old man, said with a grin
Don't be shy boy come on in
Let me show you what I mean
He said, were all like this metal bar
We need a fire burning in our hearts
If we wanna be a work of art

Because you know the Blacksmith up in the sky
Can't use a heart that only half way tries, and he said

Let Him put it in the fire, let Him put it in the forge
'Cause it ain't gonna get formed if its just lukewarm
Then let Him hold it to the anvil once its glowing like a torch
Let Him beat it with a hammer so it can be transformed
From what it was before, put it in, put it in the fire
Put it in the forge, let Him put it in the forge

And later on the old man past away
And the young boy turned into a man
And when his faith started turning grey
The old man's words rang in his head, and he said

God put me in the fire put me in the forge
'Cause I don't want to live this life, like theres nothing to live for
Then hold me to the anvil once I'm glowing like a torch
Beat me with a hammer so I can be transformed
From what I was before, put me in, put me in the fire
Put me in the forge, God put me in the forge
Put me in put me in the fire, put me in the forge
God put me in the forge
