Vacant Promises

Vacant Promises
Don't you just hate it?
I know I promised that would be the last time
The last time I'd let my hopes get that high again
This wasn't a matter of faith or belief
More of trust and responsibility
People treat words like babies treat diapers
Disposable exchanges meant to raise your enthusiasm
"I will," was more like I wish I could
"Don't worry about it," was more like you better start stressing
"Calm down," was more like you should be acting a fool by now
These people proved they knew no better
If they did, would they still?
The code clearly stated in the manual
Let your yes be yes and your no be no
But the manual was read only by a few
Out of that minority, only understood by a smaller fraction
Till the earth rotates off its axis
Disappointment is bound to be served
Like a rich bachelor, I finally bought a mansion
It was full of promises, yet so vacant
