When Your Murderer Wears a Badge

It's been a long time now
Since I lost faith in authority
It's kinda' hard when your life is at risk
Just because you a minority

There have been so many cover-ups
And so many blatant white lies
It's hard to go out and vote now
When you done seen so many die
Corruption in the highest courts
Dear Lord, why should I even try
It's hard to care anymore
The more that time goes by

It ain't no secret, dear Lord
That they wanna us dead, though
Some new Trump policies
Another racist crime bureau
Mugshots of some black teens
Used for target practice on a negro
Equality and justice struck down
And more gun bills gettin' vetoed

Substandard low-income housing
Staircases, death spiral
Unedited cellphone footage
Horrific screams that go viral
Bigoted law enforcement
But still, there's denial
White supremacist of the law
Who don't have to stand trial

Neighborhoods descending in chaos
Wailing and gnashing of teeth
Savagery at the lowest level
Single-mothers doubled over in grief
Demoralized Black elders
Pure horror unleashed
Inaudible screams for help
The agony of no relief

Plumes billowing black smoke
Mortuaries packed with mourners
Ghettos descending in darkness
Justice cowering in the corner
Another town hall meeting, Lord
Weary eyes blunted with marijuana
Anger bubbling up from the sewers
Is there any hope for us in California
Lost Angels

Who you call
When your murderer wears a badge
Tell me, who you call
When the police don't know how to act
Tell me who you call
When they shoot you just cuz you black
When there's nowhere else to run
They shoot you in your back
Tell me who you call
