The Ghost and the Child

Have you heard the tale of the ghost in the spire?
She gave up everything she had but they ended her with fire
So she stalks these halls at night like some lost satellite
Singing songs of sorrow and of battles never won

No-one hears her voice
Bouncing off the walls like some giant kettle drum
No-one hears her song
Ringing through the night
Until dawn's early light

As a new day arose on that chapel on the hill
The sky radiates with a glimmering fire
And a lost little girl sits weeping in the sun
She lost her home, late last night, to a falling German bomb

And our ghosts heart breaks
For such a beautiful little child
She tries to wrap her arms around her
But like heaven she's denied

No-one hears her voice
Bouncing off the walls like some giant kettle drum
No-one hears her song
Ringing through the night
Until dawn's early light

The very next night
There's whistling in the dark
As bombs strike the chapel
Tearing it to the ground
And laying in the rubble
Of that godly house
Is the poor girls body
And a silence strikes the night
