Ignorance Is Bliss

There are kids outside with wooden guns shooting at the birds
With mud on their jeans, an old bike they couldn't get to work
But nothing here ever does
Because of drugs
Because of ignorant words

A man on the radio is saying something about an immigrant man
He's blaming him for bringing a sickness into our land
But we weren't here first
That's even worse
How can he not understand?

We live on a red field, blue cross, with stars in between
It's plastered on a motorcade in a parade through our streets
But ignorance is bliss
They take a piss
On what it really means

"But it's been passed down, all around, from family tree to tree"
It's what they say to justify the hate they make but don't see
Those trees aren't kin
They've held men
How can you call that family?
