Power

She's just sitting on her velvet, drinkin' that bubbly
Steady climbing higher while the world is getting ugly
Sure she got the money, everybody's going hungry
(going hungry)

Cutting up her steak, she gets a call from Rodney
Asking for a raise, while she is sitting there nodding
She don't know the half of it, and hangs up while he's sobbing
(he's sobbing)

(Power made me do it, do it)
Ask him what he's doing while he's working on that night shift
Scared to lose his house and family, doped on drugs in private
Meanwhile world is growing colder with all of this violence
(She is silent)

Ask him 'bout his kids who can't go out into the public
Scared to get shot up while out enjoying chicken nuggets
She won't do a thing and makes excuses by the dozens
(And she just says...)

Next day, she's in silk and diamonds at a dinner party
Caviar, tartar, filet mignon on barley
Couldn't tell her nothing, and she wasn't even sorry
(Not sorry)

Ask her 'bout her status, well you couldn't even touch her
Didn't lift a finger, 'cause she had her own butler
Only answered to herself and nobody owned her
(They owed her)

(Power made me do it, do it)
She heard screaming, glasses breaking all throughout the hallway
Rodney had a gun, he screamed, "We're gonna do this MY way!!"
She starts running to the back to find a place for hiding
(And he's firing)

Bodies on the floor, there's blood on marble and the carpet
He takes out a cigarette and lighter from his pocket
Takes a sip of scotch while sitting, eating all the olives
(And he's mouthing... Power made me do it)

Rodney's on the news, he's got the people talking daily
Grandma's asking how he did it, acting all shady
Everybody's watching, wishing they could do the same thing
(And so they say)

Had enough of fences, everybody starts abusing
Yelling "Power" is the reason, "Power" made me do it
Meanwhile no one's acting like their even close to human
(To human)

Ask them why they did it, why they quit working the night shift
People lost their house and family, overdosed in private
Meanwhile world is growing colder with all of this violence
(They're silent)

Ask about the kids that don't exist inside the public,
They were out and got shot while enjoying chicken nuggets
They can't do a thing and make excuses by the dozens
(The dozens...)
