expectations

I was never thinking I've been doing something wrong
And everything I had was me just being on my own
I'd wasted so much time at sitting down and writing songs
Then hated being stuck and trying everything I know

Now I'm not letting it go
I have a chance to make it work and I'm not letting it go
You know
How much I hated it all
So, if you'll ever bring this up you better leave me alone

I know I said it
You still don't get it
Look the way you do
And look the way I do
I know I'm ready
Don't keep me waiting
Look the way you do
And look the way I do

I know I said it
You still don't get it
Look the way you do
And look the way I do
I know I'm ready
Don't keep me waiting
Look the way you do
And look the way I always do

I have never settled with the options that I had
And after all I said you still continue to be mad
I will never get it, why you're being so upset
So why would I remember anything that you have said?

Of course, you're tired as hell
You got it all, you've settled down and put your plan on a shelf
I've been so hard on myself
I traded dreams for my health
So, if you wanna speak a word you better look at yourself

I know I said it
You still don't get it
Look the way you do
And look the way I do
I know I'm ready
Don't keep me waiting
Look the way you do
And look the way I do

I know I said it
You still don't get it
Look the way you do
And look the way I do
I know I'm ready
Don't keep me waiting
Look the way you do
And look the way I always do

I think it's terribly dangerous for an artist to fulfill other people's expectations
If you feel safe from the area that you're working in
You're not working in the right area
Always go a little further into the water that you think you're capable of being in
Go a little out of your depth
And when you don't feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom
You're just about in the right place to do something exciting
