The Music Industry

History was always his favorite subject in school
His parents went to Harvard and they wanted him to go too
One day he started singing the thoughts he found in his head
His room became his studio and this is what his parents said

You will never make it in that industry
Not to mention supporting yourself financially
Maybe stick to studying and pass the SAT
'Cuz you will never make it in the music industry

But he wanted to write songs and to prove his parents wrong
He finalized a demo radio-friendly, three minutes long
The demo went to studios and label A and R guys
To his disbelief they actually replied, they said

You will never make it in our industry
Your songs are too boring and your voice is too off-key
Maybe take up plumbing or learn to chop a tree
'Cuz you will never make it in the music industry

They said maybe if your looks were a little more flashy
They said maybe if your hooks were a little more catchy
They said maybe if you could dance or sing real high
Otherwise it's just not worth a try

But he kept on singing, performing on the street
He made a couple bucks before giving up his dream
When you get knocked down it can be hard to stand back up
So he sat down on the ground but his singing did not stop, he sang

I will never make it in the industry
But never mind 'cuz I'm happy singing just for me
I don't need ten Grammys or to sing live on TV
It was never 'bout the money, power, or the spotlight on me
So I guess I'll never make it (Guess I'll never make it)
Oh, I guess I'll never make it (Guess I'll never make it)
Oh, I guess I'll never make it (Never gonna make it) in the music industry
