The Hill
The Hill
The hill we climb
Living in this place
Iz different than any otha minority
When we should be receiving the utmost respect
Immigrants and
willing voyagers
receive bills and acts
that outlaw hate towards
THEIR culture
Funding given to start businesses
no taxes need be paid
While we fight to get jobs
and end up with
ten hustles or more
some illegal
to support our families
I aint
on no rag or rant
jes stating facts
It's a hard row to hoe out here
When ya ain't got no water supply
Then y'all wanna climb
Y'all want we to climb this hill
this dumb ass hill of valor
Only when the victor is not of color though
does it really have value
Buffalo soldiers
Black Men in y'all uniforms
back in 1866
Sent to be the front line
But they withstood
The fight on San Juan Hill
victory for Y'all
stole anotha territory
But did the soldiers get any reward
Nope
a couple write-ups and that's bout it
One would think equality in rights and laws
but we still ain't got that yet
Instead we jes get kicked back down that hill
left scuffling to get up
Y'all hopin we won't come back atcha but
we have the hearts of lions
How do y'all think we've made it this far
Iz this why y'all hate we
Iz this why y'all call we beasts
Kuz ya'll kan't break our will to press on
Is that the animal instinct that makes y'all think we're
One tenth of a human
Iz this the reason y'all shoot we down on the streets
I know that on this hill we climb
born in Amerikkka
I will neva get the same value
az the woman who snuck cross the border
chasing the nightmare she sees az
the American Dream whateva
Dream to be what
disrespected and dishonored
When our ancestors and fathers
built the grounds of this country
Railroads to garages
some even built their own cages
At the expense of survivin anotha day
To be treated like savages
Beaten and whipped
Raped and humiliated
Feedin they newborns our liquid gold
while our babies were neglected
These are the scenes in my head
When they crying bout the Capital being raided
On January sixth
guess the chickens came home to roost huh
Blood shed as we climb this hill
With our hopes of saving our youth
Y'all tryna take ova the airwaves
I remember the movie
Josie and the Pussycat Dolls
Subliminal messages in the music
And now mi young artists out here
shootin each otha
Fightin ova turf and material things
Barely understand what they sayin
kuz thy gone off dat lean
The hill we climb is full of obstacles
boobie traps and games
We az Black people will always be seen az
less than in y'all eyes
So we jes gotta stay up on our waves
This hill we climb is an illusion
We should strive to stay grounded
Stand in truth and neva waiver
No matter how strong the wind
That hill
Hmph
The hill we climb
Living in this place
