Slow Falling Snow

After the fire died
And the presents were all untied
Pretty ribbon, wrecked paper
Everywhere, I was so tired
Could've left it till the morning
Could've left it all week
The straightening up and cleaning
Would've waited for me

Outside
A slow falling snow
I watched it swirl
Past the kitchen window

I picked up the tinsel
On the floor, scattered leaves
Candy wrappers in the cushions
All the silver debris
Could've waited till the morning
Could've waited all week
There's something in the quiet hours
Calling me

And outside
The slow falling snow
Swirled on down
Past the kitchen window

In the shapes of leaves
In the shape of a sparrow
There he was
Handing me his coat
Then, ooh, I froze
He put his hand on my shoulder
And I froze
At the scene, I stood tears streaming
I said, "I have missed you"
"You know?"

It hasn't been easy
Nothing much cheers me
It hasn't been the same
I've grown so weary
I woke up at the counter
A slow falling snow
Everything was so clean
I was still wearing his coat
