A Circle's Got No Sides

This is a tale of years ago
When you and I got bored and bold
We rode a tandem bike that we just stole
As we swore we'd never get old

I hopped on back; we went down Main Street
I lit a cigarette to contradict myself
The noon's sun was a son of a gun; you said
"I'll race you to the VP to make their ice melt"
I came in 2nd, you always won

I saw the metal doors unfold
We hopped inside 'til we got cold
The attendant kicked us back on the road
We rode for miles and miles, no tolls

We've been riding for way too long now
It feels like we're headed nowhere
I said, "Let's go before we're dead!" and then you said
"If you run around in circles, you'll never get there"
I said, "That's the smartest thing you've said"

I've been making the same mistakes
I vow never again!
I've been turning that screw as hard as I can
I'm done stripping the thread!

If you run around in circles, you'll never get there

This a tale of years ago
When you and I got bored and bold
We'd not predict the truth untold
As we swore we'd never get old
