A Story from the 80s

Sitting on the sidewalk as the city dawns
Childhood days went by on the street, barefoot on the floor
While the other kids at school would learn and play
She'd be selling chewing gum lighters and cigarettes.

It wouldn't take too long before she grew up
To become this pretty girl, everyone's desire
It wouldn't take too long before she'd figure out
She could trade her skin and soul by the hour.
With the money, clubs and drugs
Self-destructive attitudes
Bitter heaven, hard-core sugar in her blood.
And time went through
Sleepless nights went through
Floating above the roofs, witnessed by the Moon
Not a trace of her as years passed by
Chances were against all odds for her to be alive
It was said that she'd become this trembling walking bones
Silver spoon in hand and shaking for a little dose
Offering whatever's left in the ally behind the clubs
Where she used to dance till she was banned for life
And time went through
Blurry years went through
Crawling through the drains
With poison in her veins

Floating above the roofs, witnessed by the Moon
Crawling through the drains with poison in her veins
