Magnolia Tree

Old magnolia tree
Like a child, you grew from a seed
You blossomed and bloomed
And as I grew, you grew up too

Old magnolia bay
You held in the warmth
Covered me in shade

And even on my darkest day
Gold shined through you, anyway

And still the rain came
It flooded your roots
It nurtured you
Challenged you too
And then the sun came
Warmed by its rays
And a beautiful magnolia tree you became

Before I leave, I weep
As leaves fall quick, fall fast
I fall to my knees

Since I can't take you along
I'll keep your memory strong with my song
But you'll shelter the next one too
And you'll see another girl blossom and bloom

And even on her darkest day
Gold will shine through for her, always
And you'll tell her

How the rain came
How it flooded your roots
How it nurtured you
Challenged you too
And then how the sun came
Warmed by its rays
And a beautiful magnolia tree you became

Old magnolia tree
Like a child, you grew from a seed
