Freedom Wars

Freedom Wars
Wars began years before
Power grabs and cruelty
Those with lives diminished
Suffer for their protest
Cries for help reach foreign shores
Heard by those who care
Noble selfless act to send
Their sons to foreign wars

Freedom hubris testosterone
As we prepare for war
Keep all doubts in back of mind
Killing do not mention
Driven by patriotism
A need to prove oneself
A young man dons a uniform
And leaves what was his life

The plane was dark and warm and cold
One hundred soldiers silent
Smiles gone lights on the ground
What awaits us is unknown
Leaders redefine the mission
To justify the cause
Stalemate grinds people's lives
We know that something is wrong

It's time to leave once again
Hope that lives were improved
Defeat doesn't fit American wish
They shun those returning home
Suffering resumes in the far off land
As the autocrats return
Should we stop trying to help
And let the world take its course

If it's freedom that we care about
Oppression we cannot ignore
Should we stop trying to help
And let the world take its course
