Room Key

Hungry, taking view
Of the berries in the fridge
When I note contrasting shades of blue
And wonder which one "is"

40 watt strange incandescence
Shadow shaping light
Some blue must bear true berry essence
Beyond this one slow night

From the eye, defined
One seen form of many
At odds from mind to mind
Occupying bodies
Standards standing by, in dark motels
Behind closed doors, from there assigned
Hostage to our eyes
Occupying bodies

Heavy, nightly news
Sometimes florida, often kids
Invited hateful points of view
As if each could be "is"

While sympathetic to contention
Watch for ego shading sight
Some truths need no dissension
Between what's good and what is right

From the eye, defined
One seen form of many
At odds from mind to mind
Occupying bodies
Standards standing by, in dark motels
Behind closed doors, from there assigned
Hostage to our eyes
Occupying bodies

I'm standing in the line
Praying in a lobby
A sudden loss of time
Waiting for a room key
