Sons of Darkness

From darkness we come
In it we were conceived
We're pilgrims marking our progress
With each ring of the abyss we inhabit
Our journey isn't measured in miles or kilometres
Ideally it would be in Luminance, but
When do we ever get to experience that

So we measure circumstances
That seem to foreshadow a ray of hope
An event of some sort
That doesn't necessarily cloak us in an outburst of hysteria
But makes our hearts go from a 100 to 60 BPM
We're children of the sun but can't harness that power
So we light fires with broomsticks
When our lanterns are out of oil
And our patterns are made from toil
We see the cancers take away our boys
That's why what matters to us the most is our joy
Cause when the bears don't kill us
And the wolves don't kill us
And the snakes don't kill us
And the soldiers don't kill us
And the chiefs and the gods and the colonialists don't kill us
These fumes certainly will

So when you see us dancing to the beat of our hearts
And harmonising and hitting the falsettos
With the pain our souls compose
Know it's not because we're different
Not because we're special
We're just dealt a different fate

So we were given shades in our skins for we'll have no shades
And we were given soul in our music
Cause this wicked world would rob us of our souls
And the rhythm was to cherish these little moments of freedom
And the blues was to prepare us for the blues
And the gospel
That was just to make disciples out of us
And the Reggae goes a little something about unifying us
And the funk
I've got to be honest with you, I have no rationalisations for that
So let me just say this one more time
