The Painter

You've got the scent of acrylic paint on your fingertips
As you brush away the flood pouring from your eyes
Tethered by the world outside
No portrait or canvas of hues or sculpture of ice would suffice

You're weary of the ivory keys on your piano
Playing distant strains of a song you used to know
The feeling you perceive is unknown
But there's echoes of memories portraying the comfort of home

You may have never learned how to voice your thoughts
The way people ought
To do when they can't
Endure the burden of making art
You reached the sky but aimed for the stars
With all my your heart
My darling you must
Believe when I say you are more than enough to me

An empty glass of wine reflects a ray of light
Your inspired heart has left you sleep-deprived
You've never drowned but now you might
Did you ever consider you're putting your bar up too high?

You may have never learned how to voice your thoughts
The way people ought
To do when they can't
Endure the burden of making art
You reached the sky but aimed for the stars
With all my your heart
My darling you must
Believe when I say you are more than enough to me
