Nostalgia is one of the most emotional aspects of the human experience
The concept of being reminded of memories that are long gone
Strongly affects us as humans in a variety of different ways
In a way, nostalgia is like a treehouse
Maybe you had a treehouse of your own when you were younger
And you have many uplifting memories of playing in it as a kid
Perhaps you and your friends played fake war, hide and seek
Or any of the other numerous games that we've all played as children
Fast-forward 25 years
And you find yourself walking into that same forest
That you played in all those years ago
As you approach the treehouse
You find that it is rotting and decrepit
Old planks of wood are haphazardly strewn at the base of the tree
And there is a large mass of moss growing on the roof
That is missing a noticeable amount of shingles
It's a shell of what it once was
And absolutely nothing like what you remember it to be
As you behold this sight
You notice sunlight shining through the trees above
Even though this treehouse is now nothing more than an eyesore
The sun still casts down beams of light on it
In the same way that it did when you were a kid
And all the memories come flooding back
You smile because you realize that even though
You'll never live through those memories again
They're still an important part of who you are
And are something to be cherished and remembered fondly
