The Light Bulb & the Idea

Oh, I know, that light bulb and the idea, I love poem
I stood up on the red window and looked out
I saw all the suffering of my people and something inside me cried out
Never mind how it started, it has to stop

Being degraded, deprived, lied to and often bought out
Now that's just on the block, elsewhere won't let us own too much land or buy too much stock
But it'll kill our hope heart and future with some metal balls and a lot
Crooked ass cops is bringing the Klan back in and Bush for his dad has got the US caught up in sin
How will we win and where do we begin
I wondered, till I stood up under a light bulb and got the idea, to establish myself
In a position to battle the evil that is steadily stalking my people or until they see us as equal
No hype, just trying to find ways not to perpetuate the stereotype given to us at birth and fight
For education, motivation and the preservation of our people
That's my plight

This is a love poem
I write for the love of my kinfolk and all of my ancestors not given the right to vote
Sometimes I get frustrated and plot ways to escape like the endo I smoke and sometimes
Staying positive is hard like taking a big puff and trying not to choke

But still I hope, still I float through pages of wisdom Malcolm and Martin wrote, Angelo
Hughes and Garvey I told in my head
But that was just something about what they said that bothered me, that it was true and
That they were calling on me to learn from their lessons, ideals and most of all blessings

And see that we have the power to change things once we understand the importance of unity
That's me and you, coming together in our community, doing something positive so our
Kids have a safe place to be
And hopefully those that have an ear to hear take heed

This is spoken words from the mouth I read words to educate, uplift and discern
How long will we bleed and when will we learn that the years of physical and psychological
Abuse still burn while we more impressed with big rims and a good perm
So to issue our press, brother let's be mindful and remove our blindfolds to prepare for the

Revolution as it unfolds
Now it might not happen in my generation but there's still no time for wasting
There's a plan spelled out in each one of my statements like pox that will evolve to
Steer future generations
And I'm not racist but it's clear to me that to have a system on our side we're gonna have to make it
