Another Year

Another year seared itself into my eyes
And I just sat around talking
With all manner of people
Old and small and tall and strong
Each and every one of them just
Seeking somewhere to belong
Another year seared itself into my mind
And I just spent hours walking
To distant beaches and coves
In torn, tattered clothes
Desperately searching
In every nook and cranny
For the part of me that knows
That another year will fly by
And we will all eventually stop talking
When time rolls in
So slow and sudden and hot
One day we will wake up
And remember
One day we will wake up and remember
All the things that we forgot
