Scapegoat

The priest proclaimed unto the congregation
That on this scapegoat we shall cast our sin
Upon him cast the sin of our whole nation
Into the desert it shall go with him

The scapegoat wanders and he finds no shelter
He stumbles and he falls and cannot rise
The burning sand reminds him of the altar
And then at last he hears a voice on high

"Who has done this unto thee
I shall requint their cruelty
Little goat, these prideful men
Soon shall know my punishment"

The scapegoat said, "Almighty Lord
I pray You, put away Your sword
A sip of water, all I seek
And nothing more do I entreat
What I want is not sacrifice, but kindness
What I want is not sacrifice, but kindness"

The scapegoat said "Almighty King
They thought you wanted some such thing
And if that is, or is not true
I do forgive them, and You too
What I want is not sacrifice but kindness
What I want is not sacrifice but kindness"
