Moon's Silvery Light

The moon's silvery light
I've never seen it shine so bright
And the stars never hung so close by
The voice of the sea
Took on the calm of the night sky
And the waves rocked back and forth sweet lullabies
It was almost if nature recognized
The Son of God in her midst that night
He would often teach
Over there on that shore
And I would listen but follow from afar
Me a proud Roman
Among the poor, among the Jews
A bit embarrassed
But how my heart would move
In that Temple there
You see with the painted doors
I could not enter in
But I'd listen from afar
Lucanus, I wish I could
Turn back the hands of time
To see the moon again
Like it shone when He drew nigh
If I had but one more chance
I'd not follow from afar
I would be so proud
To follow close behind
When He taught us how to pray
Our Father Hallowed be Thy Name
We had never seen so radiant a face
His voice was strong like thunder
He was gentle like a lamb
He taught us how God so loved man
He even taught us to love our enemy
Oh Lucanus
That's when He looked at me
Lucanus
I wish I could
Turn back the hands of time
To see the moon again
Like it shone when He drew nigh
If I had but one more chance
I'd not follow from afar
I would be so proud
To follow close behind
Beaten, whipped and tortured
He turned the other cheek
Oh how different from
What had been taught to me
From that cross piece of wood
I heard Him pray these words to God
Father forgive them
For they know not
In spite of myself
I wept and I cried aloud
Oh surely this man was the Son of God
Oh Lucanus
I wish I could
Turn back the hands of time
To see the moon again
Like it shone when He drew nigh
If I had but one more chance
I'd not follow from afar
I would be so proud
To follow close behind
So there you go my Greek friend
Write down what you will
But I can tell you
I'm a changed man
Rome is not so important
I don't see enemies
Peace has replaced anxieties
Oh, Lucanas
My smart Greek friend
Tell me why do people
Still reject Him
The moon's silvery light
I've never seen it shine so bright
