Metamorphosis

How peculiar
How the times change
But people never waver
Between the wars of what's yours and ours
The way we tear ourselves apart
Has history changed its colors?

As the years grow old I wonder if I've grown too
Or have I just stayed the same as the sun rises everyday
And passes through?

How peculiar
How people stay the person that you met
They'll fill your world with light from stars
'Till they decide they liked the dark
And leave you standing on your own
Again

As the seasons turn I wonder if I could turn too
Or would I just stay the same as sun surely turns to rain
And passes through?

What does it matter if we change
Today from yesterday?
What's there to gain?

Maybe if I could shed my skin
A kind of metamorphosis
I could believe a clean slate exists
