Chasing the Sun
As I lie here in the dark
I long for the light
Just don't wanna be anywhere
Where it's not bright
My mind wanders off now
Where will it go
Running in memories past
My mind is the texture of snow
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
No, I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
The desert sand dunes are the bass drum
The salt flats are the snare
Sunset is the soaring synth pad
In the southwest summer air
A road trip through an arid field
Of Joshua Trees
The dryness is a godsend
'Cause it's a hundred degrees
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
No, I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
My pencil seems to be an oasis
I drink from its pool
I realize that it's not a way out
And then I feel like a fool
Suddenly we're in a small town
Ready to go
Sitting down in California
And I think I then know
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
No, I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
In the car, hills rolling by
Waves upon waves
Cows grazing in a field
Their presence stays
Nice to finally write something simple
I'm sick of my poems
As a man sits outside the closed theatre
Turning Medusa to stone
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
I don't wanna, I don't wanna, no
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
Somehow writing this is a relief
I feel like I'm free
From all the ways I seem to confine myself
When I try to simply be
The olive trees keep on eyeing us
As if they saw a giraffe
The mountains are quaking in their boots
From the sheer power that we have
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
I don't wanna, I don't wanna, no
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
The sequoia trees stare
I'm a mouse to its grandness
Apparently we live in numbers and talking
I'll let the landscape replace my tangents
I don't yet know how the land
How it writhes about
And fades into new soil
I guess I don't need to find out
One, two, three, four
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
I don't wanna, I don't wanna, no
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
Baby, I don't wanna spend all my life
Chasing the sun
Looking for answers
'Cause now I feel here
Like I'm centered for the first time and I'm glad and I'm happy
And I'm not wasting all my life
Chasing the sun
I'd like to share with you all a poem by my namesake
"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart
And try to love the questions themselves
Like locked rooms and like books
That are now written in a very foreign tongue
Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you
Because you would not be able to live them
And the point is, to live everything
Live the questions now
Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it
Live along some distant day into the answer"
The sun's finally out
Good morning, everyone
I thought you should all know that I'm doing okay
I'm doing just fine
I long for the light
Just don't wanna be anywhere
Where it's not bright
My mind wanders off now
Where will it go
Running in memories past
My mind is the texture of snow
I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
No, I don't wanna spend all my life chasing the sun
