We Knew and We Flew

Turned towards the sun, new lives begun
Old races run, no battles won
Sought another shore, with memories sore
From conflict's roar, our old lives burned

From our birth, we worshipped the earth
Hard to relate, towns destroyed so some can feel great
We knew and we flew

Fled before the view, of what we knew
Might take us too, a frightened few
Saw that greed and might, had reached their height
No choice but flight, as storm clouds grew

In our hearts we sobbed at war's start
In our minds we cried for the hate we left behind
So we knew and we flew

Found a quiet cave; we hid to save
Ourselves from graves, from lives enslaved
Escape from those who'd fight, to end our light
To welcome night, with banners waved

From the sand we watched battle's hand
With our cries, we saw it had plucked out its very own eyes
Then we knew and we flew

What they threatened came true
Will it never be through?
Can we start somewhere new?
