After Hello

I never have too much to say to communicate through my speaking
A disconnected, troubled look can be mistook for deep thinking
You have so much to get off your chest
(And you have so few things you feel need to be expressed)

So I will ask you "how's your day? Ain't the weather great?" Then I'm done
And you recount adventures you've had (like the Iliad) I never finished that one
(I have so much to get off my chest)
On mine is just one thing I feel needs to be addressed

I (you) don't always know what comes after "hello"
The only things that come to mind are the words "I love you so"

(And I'll tell you something you've not heard) In a hundred words, or less
(If you speak in terms that aren't so bland) I'll let the weatherman handle the rest
Sometimes words are modified, by adjectives
Others are omitted and replaced with a kiss

I (you) don't always know what comes after "hello"
The only things that come to mind are the words "I love you so"
