Not Alone

We are frightened by the frailty of this life
And so we pretend that we are strong
Till the telephone starts ringing in the dead of the night
And all at once we know the world's gone wrong
When tragedy comes calling, it'll shake us to the core
'Til the things we thought were solid aren't certain anymore
But even when our words desert us and our spirits groan
We are not alone

We are hard pressed, but we are not crushed
We are struck down but not destroyed
Cause no matter what may happen
We are not abandoned
We are not alone

There are friends who offer comfort, and they mean well
But sometimes it's like salt inside a wound
And it's good to speak of heaven, when it feels more like hell
But we ask our hearts for healing much too soon
There's a Man of Sorrows, acquainted with our grief
And He's done His share of crying in the night with no relief
There isn't any heartache that He has not known
So we are not alone

We are hard pressed, but we are not crushed
We are struck down but not destroyed
Cause no matter what may happen
We are not abandoned
We are not alone

There's no use in pretending, some things just don't make sense
And there isn't any justice, at least not yet
But in a while we will remember this is not our home
And we are not alone, no
We are not alone

We are hard pressed, but we are not crushed
