Mother Courage Finale

It overwhelms all opposition
It needs to grow or else it dies
What else is war but competition,
A profit-building enterprise?
War isn't nice, you hope to shirk it
You hope you'll find someplace to hide.
But if you've courage You can work it
And set a tidy sum aside
The refugees? Oh sure, I've seen 'em
The thousands fleeing from the war
They've not a scrap of bread between 'em
I wonder what they're running for

Now spring has come and Winter's dead
The snow has gone so draw a breath
Let Christian souls crawl out of their beds
Pull on their socks and conquer death

Sometimes there's luck, and always worry
The war goes on, and perseveres
For war is never in a hurry
