New Disguise

The spirits haunt her
She don't know what to do
Afraid of the gift
From past generations
That the curse will not lift

She got the demons
They eat her insides
She thinks ignorance is bliss
So why take control when it's
Easy to dismiss

Now she wears a new disguise
While she severs all her ties
And she's running far away
As she's chased by yesterday

Once upon a time
Thought I could penetrate
She showed me her eyes
For a moment she looked into mine
And she began to rise

But she got vertigo
Looking down from those heights
She fell right on the safety net
Safe and secure in those
Old comfortable plights

Now she wears a new disguise
While she severs all her ties
And she's running far away
While she's chased by yesterday

Living in the past
Is never a very good thing
But she won't acknowledge
That she's got the knowledge
To laugh, to cry and sing

So now she stands on the ledge
Will she fall off the edge
Without a prayer
Or without a wing

She treats the cure as if
It were the disease
She tightens up the tourniquet
Desperately trying to
Cut off all she sees

Now she's running far away
As she's chased by yesterday
And she wears a new disguise
While she severs all her ties

Yes she wears a new disguise
While she severs all her ties
And she runs so far away
While she's chased by yesterday
