Amongst the Pine

Where the river flows
And the yarrow grows
We left our lives behind
To sleep amongst the pine

They roused us from our sleep
The drums began to beat
Up and up and up
The sun did creep

Alone, but at home

Mother, hold me
I've been so lonely
Mother, hold me
I've been so lonely

We drew a circle there
Where the earth and stone was bare
We smudged with smoking sage
And took off our names

We crossed the line of sticks
Our fear was hot and thick
We walked our separate ways
To sit out three days
Alone

A tarp to shield from rain
That oh so quickly came
With boom and flashing light
As daytime turned to night

My greatest fears unleashed
But all I felt was peace
Dry riverbed cupping me
Beneath a dripping tree

Alone
But at home

Mother, hold me
I've been so lonely
Mother, hold me
I've been so lonely
