Coming Home

Summer has been clothed in orange and brown
All the leaves are falling to the ground
So before the last hint of warmth is gone
I'd just like to say I was wrong
The sign says five hundred more miles till I'm there
And that familiar scent has entered the air
My fifth cup of coffee is settling in
And I'm wondering where to begin
If I said I had an answer I'd be lying
But I was wondering if you could make me laugh
Cuz I'm sick of trying
I've been granted my time to figure out
All the things that I still don't know
And now I'm driving thru the night
I am coming home
The wind is turning angrier
The sky is growing more unsure
I'm holding on tight to the steering wheel
Driving thru the motions of how I feel
Cuz it's a mess all around me and I'm trying to clean it
I guess what I'm saying is I didn't mean it
And I'm ending up right back where I've already been
But this time I won't leave again
