For When You Wake Up

I spent a year writing letters, to everyone that I knew
Praying for just one single reply, hoping that it might be you
Those days are distant in memory-- I threw my ink in the trash
I ain't gonna write a single word, so you won't ever write back

These days, they're spent at the harbor- reading to all of the trees
Watch as some boats drop their anchors, and others sail out to sea
Some say I need a savior, some say I need to sleep
They told me life ain't no daydream, I wish they'd just leave me be

I've lived my life through a painting, the artist must have no idea
Why else would he leave it unfinished? the canvas is my greatest fear
Now get me a map and a compass, find my way back real soon
Desperate to find some shelter-- not enough, though to go back to you

This week has been such a whirlwind, I thought that it could never end
Despite having such heavy boots, my feet have yet to grace the land
Some say I need a savior, some say i need to sleep
They told me life ain't no daydream, I wish they'd just leave me be...
