Eternity Inside

Eternal mysteries made known
Judgment and blessings handed out from the same throne
In fact they're two sides to the same coin
Its death to the dead but its life to the living
And we stand forgiven though we're still living in this prison
Of flesh and bone
Born of heaven though Im calling this earth my home
Still prone to attacks and the arrows that pierce my dome
But stone was given a pulse
So now I feel the impulse to see results for his glory
I tell my story even if the world ignore me
Word to the prisoner
The pages bring life to the listener
So I break it down like a vicar to parishioners
With a poets' commission attached to the mic
Wash the beat with the water of the word when I write
That's my duty
If the Lord of all pursued me
It's my joy to allow him to speak through me

You desire truth in the inmost parts
You put eternity inside our hearts
Earth and stars bow at your whim
What is man that you would think of him?
You desire truth in the inmost parts
You put eternity inside our hearts
So much to say where where do I begin?
What is man that you would think of him?

There's a longing in a man's soul
A spark of life left behind in a dark hole
I grasp for the feeling of life that I know is reality
But between my fingers and it's vapour lies a chasm
We trudge though the twilight of our lifespan
Knowing that in time immemorial we were immeasurably more
Now we don't measure up
Not to society, certainly not to the potential inside of me
Anxiety existential
If all there is is what I see
Life's inconsequential
A by-factor of natural selection
All is chaos with the illusion of direction
But what of beauty?
What of justice?
How could love exist if all there is just is?
My consciousness feels like more than a chemical reaction
My inner longing points to the object of its satisfaction

You desire truth in the inmost parts
You put eternity inside our hearts
Earth and stars bow at your whim
What is man that you would think of him?
You desire truth in the inmost parts
You put eternity inside our hearts
So much to say where where do I begin?
What is man that you would think of him?

The glint of wine as it fills the glass
The security of riches as they're seen amass
The look of a woman in the flower of her youth
The comfort of the rain as you hear it hit your own roof
The status felt with your hands behind the wheel
The air of power as your fingers grip the steel
The sense of the pride from a good education
The superiority of your nation
Conquering the earths highest heights
Or partying and being known for the wildest nights
Success in career or success as a parent
Bravery when defeat seems apparent
All may be virtues and true but they fleet
Men have reached their peaks and yet felt incomplete
Alone my throat is dry and my tongue parched
Son of man, eternity's inside your heart
