Westbound
I'm gonna start a walk today I'll
walk and walk and walk and walk forever
I'll leave without my keys just down the
road which goes to where the sun is heading
Just out this foggy town
The sullen world around
I tell the ones I meet out in the
street to kindly greet the ones I'm leaving
And the sculpture on the square reminds me I
don't share what we're all meant to believe in
But this is nothing new
It's the same for me and you
I'm westbound
I'm not looking for a land that's yet unfound
I'm westbound
I only need to feel my hurried feet on the ground
Those made-up girls their golden tan they
plan to find a man while they're still pretty
I just get bored, now that's for sure,
while I pass the last corners of the city
Now the view is clear
And I am out of here
I rest beneath the buzzing trees where
busy bees will please the one who listens
The air's so clean out in the green though I
still see chimneys smoke out in the distance
I see their blinking lights
Through the darkest nights
I'm westbound
I'm not looking for a land that's yet unfound
I'm westbound
I only need to feel my hurried feet on the ground
I pass a hundred towns where love is found
then lost then found then lost then found again
For some it is no thing they dance and
sing from early spring until the summer's end
But who can open their
Hearts everywhere
I wonder is it fate what I forsake
makes me go straight in one direction
This walk in ragged shoes gives me the
blues I think I'm losing my protection
Until I'm stripped down to the bone
And it's me and me alone
I'm westbound
I'm not looking for a land that's yet unfound
I'm westbound
I only need to feel my hurried feet on the ground
When this land turns into sand I
cannot stop and end up knee-deep in the ocean
I crawl back to the shore soaked to the
core though my poor spirit's still in motion
Along the beach I creep
Until I fall asleep
I dream I had a keel with proper seal and a good feel for navigation
But we know those who've tried the all
have died out in high tide or from starvation
Humans can be fools
But nature sets the rules
I'm westbound
I'm not looking for a land that's yet unfound
I'm westbound
I only need to feel my hurried feet on the ground
walk and walk and walk and walk forever
I'll leave without my keys just down the
road which goes to where the sun is heading
Just out this foggy town
