Sarah

I came upon a charming girl,
And Sarah is her name.
Her parents want a husband with riches, wealth and fame.
I have no wealth and riches and fame
Have never come my way
Sarah, Sarah, would you come out tonight?
Put your hat and jacket on,
And tell your mother you won't be long,

My Sarah is a girl like this, a girl you seldom see
She loves me only for myself and not for my money
And every night at eight-o-clock she puts her needle away,

Sarah, Sarah, would you come out tonight?
Put your hat and jacket on,
And tell your mother you won't be long,

One night a little after eight I crept up to her door,
I whispered, "Sarah darling," as I'd often done before
"I'll give you a Sarah" said a voice as down I went with a flop

She said,
Sarah, Sarah, would you come out tonight?

And I let her think so too
At last she said "he's alive or dead,
My girl I'd let him wed"
So up I jumps says "Thank you ma'am"
And to my girl I said:

I said
Sarah, Sarah, would you come out tonight?
Put your hat and jacket on,
And tell your mother you won't be long,
Sarah, Sarah, would you come out tonight?
Put your hat and jacket on,
And tell your mother you won't be long,

(end)
