Nights Such as These

As the tension mounted within I wanted to leave
I needed to get away but my boots were gone
I remember as if it were yesterday
We had the time of our lives in a silent way
The evening would lend itself well to the art of song
Still yearning to go outside I sank in my chair
A rap on the window behind had caught my ear
When my boots returned, I split for the door
Sidestepping shards of bloody glass on the floor
I found comfort in familiar faces of three
Standing with our hands on the rail I could see what they see
Purple puffy clouds were rolling in fast
The panic within was released at last
Time stands perfectly still in moments like these
Life stands perfectly still on nights such as these
